Brunch at Little Bird Unbakery // Review

A few weekends ago my fiancé and I treated ourselves to brunch at The Unbakery in Ponsonby, Auckland. This has been on my to-do list for a few years now, so I was more than excited when we finally went!!

The Unbakery is part of Little Bird Organics and specialize in organic, raw, vegan, dairy-free, soy-free, gluten-free and refined sugar-free food. They have everything on their menu, from shakes, smoothies, juices, breakfast and lunch foods as well as a cabinet filled with delicious sweet treats 🙂

If you live in Auckland and haven’t visited The Unbakery yet I suggest you plan a trip pronto!!

Now onto the food and drinks we had 🙂

I’ll start with the drinks, I had a Mocha Maca Mug (right) which is espresso, raw cacao mix, maca and coconut cashew milk. It was absolutely divine and came in a generous sized mug! Now I was too excited to drink it that I forgot to take a photo of it, so the photo on the right comes courtesy of The Unbakery Instagram page. My fiancé had this amazing Iced Chocolate Milkshake (left) made from cacao, cashew ice-cream, vanilla, little bird chocolate sauce and hazelnut milk. This was one of the best milkshakes I have ever tasted! It was so creamy and had the perfect chocolate flavour!

Now onto the food 🙂

My fiancé ordered the Kumara and Coconut Hotcakes (left) and they were so pretty!! They tasted just as good as they looked too!! The kumara and coconut hotcakes were accompanied by grilled bananas, stone-ground coconut and macadamia butter, and maple syrup. This dish is one for those of you with a sweet tooth, it was very satisfying.

I have a more savory preference when it comes to breakfast so I couldn’t go past trying the Portobello Benedict (right). It was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had! No exaggeration the hollandaise sauce was to die for! My fiancé even said he would prefer it over traditional hollandaise (and he isn’t even vegan!). The dish was comprised of a house-made raw bagel, wilted spinach, marinaded portobello mushroom and the incredible cashew hollandaise sauce with some micro greens as well. 🙂

When we were finished our meals we wandered over to browse the incredible selection of sweet treats they had to offer in their cabinet. I had such a hard time deciding what to pick but we finally settled on a slice of the Chocolate Caramel Slice and a slice of Passion fruit Cheesecake. Once again we ate these without getting any photos as they were just too good!! So these photos come courtesy of The Unbakery Instagram page.

We left with very happy bellies and will 100% be returning to try more delicious meals very soon! It was such a treat to go somewhere where I could choose anything off the menu and know that it had no nasties in it.

Have you tried The Unbakery? Let me know if you have and what your favourite dish was 🙂

Much Love xx
